Putting together the story of Blanche Violet Maher as a photographer and artist has been an extraordinary journey. The process of making the book has been an enormous pleasure. Working with Warren Macris and High Res Digital in putting together the materials, choosing the sequence of photographs with editor Rachel Knepfer, working on design with Oscar Martin and researching the history of women in photography in the late VIctorian era are the creative and skilled threads that bring Blanche's previously unpublished work to life. The book was printed in Sydney by Momento Pro, where Lisa Ryman lent us her vast knowledge of art books and Libby Jeffery, Momento Pro’s CEO, provided the energy and enthusiasm that makes hard work feel joyful. Feeling different paper stock, looking at covers and bindings, choosing covers, end pages and reviewing proofs, these are all the tangible, tactile elements of book creation that transform an idea into a reality. Together we created a publication that is elegant and chic.

Blanche's work deserves to be celebrated in an art book. Her images are more than a documentation of a life in the late Victorian / early Edwardian era, they breathe a sensuality and appreciation of landscape, portraiture and light.
